The governor of the central Bie Province, José Amaro Tati, on Tuesday here appealed to traditional chiefs for major involvement in the disarmament process of citizens in illegal possession of fire-guns, aiming at the consolidation of peace and democracy in the communities.

The governor was speaking at the opening ceremony of the workshop on disarmament of citizens in illegal possession of weapons, which is being attended by hundreds of personalities from various social backgrounds.

José Amaro Tati underlined that the traditional chiefs are called to participate directly in the disarmament process, because they live closely the problems of the people.

"They should make a great effort so as to avoid that the weapons in illegal possession do not bring about disturbances in the life of citizens", he stressed.

He also called on religious entities to continue sensitising the citizens for them to hand over the guns in their possession.
