A delegation of the Joint Commission for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Peace in Cabinda left Luanda Wednesday for that northern province of Angola to assess the political and social situation in the region.
Headed by the minister of Territory Administration, Virgilio de Fontes Pereira, the delegation will focus its assessment on the actual situation of the ex-soldiers of the independentist Cabinda Enclave Liberation Front (FLEC) and study ways to repatriate the Angolan refugees currently based in neighbouring countries.
The delegation that will stay in the province for 24 hours, comprises the coordinator of the Cabinda Forum for Dialogue, António Bento Bembe and the deputy minister of Social Welfare, Maria da Luz.
The chief of Staff assistant of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) for land forces, gen. Nguto, representatives of the Military Department of the Presidency of the Republic and of the Institute for Social Reintegration of Ex-Soldiers (IRSEM), are also part of the team.
Speaking to Angop at the Luanda airport before departure, Bento Bembe said the delegation will assess the actual situation facing the FLEC demobilised soldiers and study ways to repatriate Angolan refugees based in neighbouring countries.
He also said that the study will enable the Government/Cabinda Forum Joint Commission to make decisions on the demobilised and retired soldiers and on the refugees.
