The students are sponsored by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) under its Program for Master Studies (Noma) with support from German Technical Corporation Energy Advisory Project (EAP).

He said Uganda largely depends on foreign renewable energy experts and sends personnel out to study postgraduate courses that do not necessary meet the needs of the country. The course will help to bridge the gap and also offer home-bred specialists.

Mr Buchholz said German has agreed to scale up its support to Uganda's energy sector to at least 27 billion. The new program will be based at Makerere University in collaboration with other universities in the region.
