Kampala City Council FC tactician George 'Best' Nsimbe is in the running for the Shs1m cash prize that has been staked by pay television company GTV for the best coach. GTV has staked Shs16m in prize money for best performers in various individual categories. The league champions are to collect Shs26m in prize money.
KCC is just one point away from clinching their first league title since 1997 and Nsimbe is responsible for the dream run that has taken the team to the precipice of success.
The former midfield hardman took over from Moses Basena with the club undergoing a bad spell. He has since won 11 games out of 12 to guide the club to pole position in the league standings with 71 points from 33 matches.
If he goes on to win or draw with Bunnamwaya in the club's final game of the season, he will become only the second former player to win the league title as a coach.
Tom Lwanga, who won the title as a player in 1976 and 1977, became the first KCC great to win the title as a coach in 1997. SC Villa midfielder Stephen Bengo who has excelled in the club's quest for honours, is the favourite to win the player of the season award. The best player of the season will walk away with Shs1.5m.
"He has been on top of his game and scored vital goals. And though he might not win the league title, he should challenge for the player of the season award," Villa coach Asuman Lubowa said.

Simba's Bruno Olobo or KCC's Brian Omony are meanwhile level in the chase for the golden boot and a cash prize of Shs1m. Both players have netted 15 goals each.
