Ndalatando

Angolan Social Welfare minister, João Baptista Kussumua, Wednesday in Ndalatando, northern Kwanza Norte province, appealed to the provincial government to design programmes that facilitate the assistance to vulnerable and needy people in the region.

The minister made the appeal during a meeting with people living with disabilities, as part of a few hours visit to Kwanza Norte, meant for the presentation of the Government's 11 commitments on child protection.

At the ceremony attended by local governor, Henrique André Júnior, the minister assured his sector's readiness to fully support programmes intended to improve the living of people with disabilities and children.

"The intention of the ministry goes towards continuing to privilege the elaboration of concrete programmes of social impact, with a view to the gradual amelioration of the living condition of this segment of the population," he said.

According to him, the Government is concerned about learning of the needs of that group of the population, the reason why the sector he leads will conduct a countrywide enquiry to establish the main worries facing those persons.

He said the enquiries are intended to speed up the practical implementation of the mechanisms for assistance to those living with disabilities and people in vulnerable condition.

During his stay in Ndalatando, João Baptista Kussumua explained to the various local entities the Government's 11 commitments on child protection and the mechanisms for their implementation.

At the meeting with members of the local Government and the civil society, the minister explained the forms of inclusion of the 11 commitments in the budgetary plans at national, provincial and district levels, and analysed the assistance and protection to the elderly.
