MINISTER of State for Commerce and Industry, Ahmed Garba Bichi, and the Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drugs Control (NAFDAC) Prof Dora Akunyili, have commended Sosaco Nigeria Limited, for diversifying from buying and selling into manufacturing.

Speaking on the occasion of commissioning ceremony of the company's new ultra modern dairy factory at Ijoko Community, Sango-Ota, Ogun State, Bichi said, "I am delighted to rejoice with you on this occasion of the commissioning of your new ultra modern factory and the expansion of your company as a step to widen your company's market base and diversified resource base.

"Of interest to me is your consistent contribution to the nation's industrial develop-ment drive through modernisation and expansion programme that intends to make Nigeria self-reliant in the production of dairy products through an ongoing strategy of divesting from imports and embarking on manufacturing of Jago milk brand. It shows a company that has strong corporate focus for maximizing its investment opportunity in a business line with a lot of potentials for future prospect," he stated.

Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof Dora Akunyili, also applauded the company to have invested in state-of-the art facility and products quality.

She urged the manufacturer to consider exporting its Jago range of products into the ECOWAS sub-region, noting, "We observed that the company imports tomato paste in bulk and they process, evaporate, sterilize and package tetra packs. This company is actually the first in West Africa that have tetra packaging.

The business is moving. We are encouraged by its investments in the economy, generating hundreds of hobs. The company is a model to other companies that engaged in buying and selling. Within two years they were able to move from traditional buying and selling to a manufacturing outfits.

"You should do some export even if it is a little. I would be happy to see some of your products in Ghana, Cameroon, Lome and Ivory Coast. I will feel more comfortable being the Chairman of West African Regulator. The Franco-phone countries are eager to use our products but it must be labeled in English and French in order for them to read what they are buying. I think its fair enough," she noted.

Chairman Senate Committee on Industry, Senator Kamarudeen Adedibu, while urging the company to also exploit exports market, lauded Sosaco's contribution towards the nation's industrialisation drive.

He pointed out that industrial development is key to achieving vision 2020.

"I believe there's no vision 2020 without industries. As we races to become one of the leading top 20 economies by 2020, how do we get there without industries? We need more industries to open in Nigeria to make vision 2020," he said.
