FACTIONAL Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Mr. Edward Sado, yesterday, escaped death when armed youths, suspected to be political thugs disrupted his familiarisation tour of Uromi, Esan North East Local Government of Edo State.

Mr. Sado is the Chairman of the Governor Oserhiemen Osunbor/Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia-led faction of the party while Chief Dan Orbih is the chairman of the faction of the party led by the former Chairman of the party's Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih.

It was in Uromi that Barr. Sado escaped death while several others sustained serious injuries in the ancestral home of Chief Anenih.

Before the party's state congress, Chief Dan Orbih who was backed for the Chairmanship position by Chief Anenih, was attacked in a similar manner when his campaign train stormed Uhumnwonde, the home soil of the two time Governor of the old Bendel State, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia.

However, Vanguard learnt that Mr. Sado and other members of his executive were on their way to Uromi at about 11am for the familiarisation tour, but retreated when the youths started shooting sporadically and barricaded the road.

Trailers were used to block all the roads leading to Uromi.

While the party Chairman was lucky to escape through the bush path, his followers were not that lucky as they ran for their dear life as a result of the gun shots from the thugs and several persons sustained injuries in the process. Reacting, Mr. Sado described the incident as unfortunate, saying that the party would decide on the next step in few days time.

Meanwhile, Chief Dan Orbih has enjoined its members to uphold discipline and respect for the supremacy of the party as key to the sustenance of a party-based democracy. Orbih, who stated this while addressing PDP faithful in Edo North senatorial district of the state, as part of his state-wide tour, added that the party in a political party system remained the effective vehicle for democracy to flourish.
