BOMBERS coach Jimenez Gonzalez has threatened to quit the job if the boxing governing body UABF does not improve his working conditions.

Gonzalez took up the job in February and has since complained about poor equipment and bad working conditions.

"I better go back and reconsider options to go somewhere else. I have nothing I'm doing here. Cuba is the centre of boxing and I can get another contract from there," Gonzalez told The New Vision in the presence of some UABF officials.

"Tanzania, Saudi Arabia Puerto Rico and Venezuela still want me to coach (their boxers). I can still get a contract with them," he said.

"(Ronald) Serugo is ready to gauge himself against boxers like him (Olympic-bound boxers) but I don't see any plans to acclimatise in Taiwan (at the pre-Olympics)," the Cuban complained.

UABF spokesman Sande Musoke acknowledged Gonzalez's concerns but referred to federation president Roger Ddungu, who is abroad for a business trip. Gonzalez said that he had also lost contact with Ddungu for the last two months.

Meanwhile, National Council of Sports (NCS) has boosted the local boxing body with sh1.9m to help Serugo enter camp.

Musoke yesterday said that they had received the money from NCS and Serugo, together with sparring partners in lightfly Bernard Wasswa, flyweight John Babuuse, and bantam Sula Segawa, have started training at Lugogo.

"We also expect bantam Ibrahim Kanakulya in camp today (yesterday). He delayed after he fell sick," explained Musoke.

Musoke said that the money was to cater for meals, allowances and medical treatment for the boxers.

"We are also going to look for more sponsors. At least the coach is happy with the new development," commented Musoke of the team, which he said was now having four meals a day.

Gonzalez had earlier advised the federation to put more emphasis on the food that they offer the boxers, after dubbing them to be very weak.

Musoke allayed fears that there were no plans to enter Serugo for the President's Boxing Cup May 25-31 in Taipei, Taiwan. He said there was good progress.
