MAKERERE University wants a supplier to install a clean agent fire suppression system for its data centre. A clean agent fire suppression is used in conventional water sprinkling systems to put out fires.
According to http://makerere.ac.ug website, the procurement is funded by Norway through its agency for international development to support implementation of the information and communications technology for the network operation centre.
"The bidder should show evidence of installing a system similar in nature and scope in Uganda. Provide description, client and contact officer, date and size of installation.
"Other evidence should be in form of local purchase orders and letters of recommendation," the website said. It added: The bidder shall be trained by the manufacturer of the equipment to design, install, test and maintain fire suppression systems. Evidence of the bidder's technical staff competence shall be certificates of competence from the manufacturer."
The installing contractor shall provide proof of emergency service availability 24 hours per day, seven days a week, explained the website.
The contractor shall have access to a clean agent recharging station "and must provide proof of ability to re-charge the system in 24 hours after a discharge.

The notice specifies that the system must be an FM-200, which must be complete and include all mechanical and electrical installations, all detection and control equipment.
