Lagos — Subscribers to the MTN network can now participate in the popular TV reality game show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? through the internet.
Speaking at the launch of the online version tagged Millionaire Online in Lagos , Mr. Femi Ayeni, CEO, Ultima Limited, producers of the programme described it as an innovation which is aimed at rejuvenating the educational and recreational online habits of Nigerians everywhere.
"Millionaire Online is an exciting new game cast in the format of the most popular TV game show in the world and which has become the most watched shows of its kind in Nigeria consistently over the last four years", he said.
The internet version is a replica of the TV experience and yet, has its unique features: Participants could choose whatever time or period they wish to play, anywhere and from their comfort using their mobile phones, computers or other internet enabled-hand held devices.
Players of the online game who score the highest point each week would be rewarded every week. While the highest scorer goes away with N20,000, the next two high scoring participants would also win N10,000 each. In addition, the player with the highest cumulative
monthly score wins N50,000 with two other high scoring players also walking away with N20,000.
Moreover, winners of both the weekly and monthly prizes on the internet may also qualify to play for N10million on the hot seat in the real TV version.
According Adunola Ajunwon, Ultima Limted, all that players require to participate in the online experience is to text the word PIN to
345 from their mobile phone. Immediate, 3 different numbers are given with which individuals could then log on to the game's website at www.millionairenigeria/onlinegame.com.
Mr Frank Edoho, the presenter of the TV version in an interview with THISDAY said Millionaire Online would serve as a platform to prepare players for the real game show on television as they would have gotten a feel of what it is like to be on the hot seat.
Also Mr. Elvis Daniel, MTN Marketing Department said the innovation is one of the various ways through which MTN seeks to delight its teeming subscribers.
Online player would experience the same nerve-pulsating sensation of actually seating in the hot seat and answering 15 questions with the same accompanying sound and even light effects, according to the producers.
