Tragedy struck yesterday at Ozuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, as six persons, including a pregnant woman, were found dead in their home from what apparently was asphyxiation from generator fumes.

The family with their three children and a housemaid were said to have put on their generator when there was power outage, and slept off with the generator on inside the house.

The incident was discovered when yesterday morning, mother of one of the victims and head of the deceased family, Mr Ebere Amadioha, went to find out why his son and his family were not out, and discovered the doors locked from inside. She was said to have knocked for sometime without any response, which made her to raise alarm that led to the door being forced open and bodies of the deceased lay spread eagled in different rooms.

When the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Rita Abbey was contacted, she confirmed that the family suffocated through generator exhaust fumes, but said they were rushed to the hospital unconscious where all, except the housemaid died. Doctors are, however, still battling to save the maid.
