Katsina — Disagreement has erupted between some rural communities in Katsina State over the quality of jobs executed in the state.
The disagreement was brought to the open when the communities complained of poor quality jobs of the Fadama project. The state commissioner of agriculture and natural resources, Alhaji Abdulaziz Mamman Katsina berates the communities for being economical with the truth.
The complaints were mainly from rural communities in Kankia local government area of the state.
At Fanga Village, the Village head, Malam Sada Ahmad Fanga revealed that they had to stop a contractor who was rushing to complete a borehole without reaching the water level.
Malam Sada lamented that they are yet to hear from the contractor who three months ago promised to return to the project site to rectify faults in the borehole construction.
According to him, "We now have to trek or use our bicycles for about five kilometers to get water from the Kankia dam. The situation is unbearable and we urgently need this contractor to come and complete his job."
At Kafi-Dangi Village, the complaint was almost the same as the spokesman of the community, Malam Muntari Bello alleged that the Fadama borehole has killed their solar powered borehole that was before now supplying enough water to the village.
He said more worrisome is the situation where the Fadama contractor had to resort to the use of water facilities provided by the Kankia local government council, thus putting additional burden on the council's meager resources.
However, when leadership contacted the state commissioner for agriculture and natural Resources, Alhaji Abdulaziz Mamman Katsina he debunked all the allegations leveled against the Fadama project.
Alhaji Mamman noted that the alleged killing of solar powered borehole in Kafin-Jangi clearly showed that the quality of work by Fadama project was far better than that of the local council.
The commissioner added that the award of Fadama projects and its monitoring had made it near impossible to execute a bad job.
He therefore advised the communities to complement the effort of Fadama to serve them better instead of trying to constitute a problem to its good works.
LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that the issue borders mainly on Fadama borehole and rural roads.
