Holiday Inn will have a new name: Southern Sun Dar es Salaam.
It will change the name next month. the hotel's general manager, Mr Adam Fuller, said.
He explained that the initiative had nothing to do with increased competition or any other market forces.
"Neither does the change of the name relate to any changes at management level for the hotel remains in the hands of the South Africa-based Southern Sun Offshore - a subsidiary of TSOGO group of companies," he said.
According to him, the name change is an implementation of a strategy to own and manage its own brand as adopted by Southern Suns Hotels in 2006.
In its first phase, the group rolled out its brand to its South African Hotel stable.
In this second phase, the strategy is being rolled out simultaneously to its hotels in Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania.
The Southern Sun Group operates hotels in Kenya, Zambia, the Seychelles, the United Arab Emirates, Tanzania, South Africa, Mozambique and open it in Nigeria.
He said the decision to start promoting its own brand in Tanzania had come after seven years of successful operations with the Holiday Inn brand that was franchised from Europe.
"Southern Sun is a well-established brand name in South Africa.
It has been in the market for 40 years.
It is now time to promote our own name.
I hope it is a global brand with an African banner and we are proud of our African brand," he said.
The hotel is registered in Tanzania as Southern Sun Tanzania.
The Southern Sun Group has invested over 1.3 billion rands to upgrade its hotels in various areas.
More money will spent on promoting the new brand name.
