The Angolan national senior male basketball team, title holders, will dispute the eliminatory round of access to the 2009 African Basketball Cup, scheduled to happen in Nigeria, informed Wednesday the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB)'s secretary general, Tony Sofrimento.

According to the source, referring to a document from FIBA Africa, the only team with the qualification guaranteed are the host country (Nigeria).

FAB's secretary general did not explain the reason for the changes, but said that Angola, nine times African champions, will have to compete for a place in the 2009 competition.

The national squad do not compete to qualify for Afrobasket in more than 10 years, after conquering the first title in 1989.
