Angola: President Dos Santos Analyses North-East Seafront Projects

Luanda — The Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos accomplished this Thursday a cycle of work in Cacuaco district, designed to gather information on ongoing projects or those conceived for the seafront of the northeast region of the country's capital, Luanda, namely from Panguila to the Commercial Harbour of Luanda.

The initiative aimed at learning about the co-ordination and interconnection of projects, so that its implementation not only satisfies the desires of its promoters, but also contribute to the solving of striking problems faced by citizens and enable to uncrowd Luanda city, whilst its Steering Plan is not applied.

A meeting with various entities analysed the reorganisation of Sambizanga district, especially concerning Boavista ward, in interconnection with the current area of "Roque Santeiro" market and Operário ward; the creation of a new centrality in Cacuaco, which foresees the phased construction of over 100,000 homes; the ongoing rehabilitation of the Cacuaco-Luanda and Cacuaco-Viana roads, as well as the situation of the Sonils project, basic on the assistance to the oil industry.

It was informed that once the problem of disorderly construction and concurrent resettlement of the population was solved, the reorganisation of the area will involve the creation of a new network of urban infrastructures and equipment, as well as the construction of housing undertakings for the medium and higher classes.

The meeting also served to obtain information from the Agriculture Ministry on the organisation of green fields that supply foodstuff to this capital.

Thereby, the Head of State ordered the creation of supply centres on the Ramiro-Benfica and Catete-Viana-Luanda routes, enabling the receiving of products arriving from the neighbouring provinces (Kwanza Sul and Kwanza Norte) and also specialised markets.

Presided over by President José Eduardo dos Santos, the meeting was attended by the ministers of Public Works, of Environment, of Agriculture, by the governor of Luanda, as well as by local authorities and by officials of the Presidency.
