PAUL Nkambwe and Bill Hickling mastered wins on Wednesday night in the elite group of the Club Open squash championship going on at Kampala Club.

Nkambwe registered his second win in the event to reach ten points and make the run for the coveted prize, tight at the top.

Nkambwe, one of the budding players that the Uganda Squash Rackets Association says is nurturing for the future, was a 9-1 9-6 9-8 winner over Australian Michael Carberry. He earned six points from the win. He had earlier beaten Alex Bangirana to claim four points.

Defending champion Hickling beat Bangirana 9-4 9-0 9-7 to push his tally to 17 points, setting him up on course to retain the title.

The event is being played on a round robin and the top two in each category will battle in the final tomorrow. The tournament, the first major event on the USRA calendar, has men in three groups and a women's category.
