Nigeria: Minister Flags Off Fertiliser Sale in Kuje

FCT minister, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, has flagged off the sale of fertiliser in Kuje area council.

Heconsquently expressed his optimism that Abuja would witness a bumper harvest this cropping season, emphasising that the sale of fertiliser and the commencement of the 2008 planting season were planned to coincide to make a statement.

The minister stated that the era of commencing the sale of fertiliser to farmers at the middle of rainy season was over as his administration was determined to cultivate enough food that could feed the residents and even for export.

He reminded the residents that the federal government, through the federal ministry of agriculture and water resources, had allocated 8,100 metric tonnes of asssorted fertiliser to FCT residents and that out of these, 4,000 metric tonnes were already in the custody of the FCTA, ready for sale to the general public.

Modibbo assured that transparent modalilties had already beeen worked out to enable the commodity get to the nooks and crannies of the territory to prevent any possible abuse in its distribution.

He revealed that the secretary of the FCT agriculture and rural development secretariat had met with chairmen of the six area councils to enable genuine farmers have access to the commodity.

He said that UREA, NPK and SSP would be sold to farmers at the cost of N1,638:00, N1,876:88 and N1,650: 00, respectively.
