Kampala — THE Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has called back former top officials to help market and improve its image.
Norman Katende reports that a public relations committee to improve media relations and promote cricket activities was launched yesterday.
"Cricket is growing fast. It is taking huge strides and the public should know about it. That is why we have come up with a committee to take on the job of informing the public," said UCA chairman Dr. Kato Ssebbaale.
The committee, headed by former chairman Latimer Mukasa, has former secretaries Bashir Ansasira and Chris Azuba as members. Its biggest role will be to protect the association's image and also provide timely updates on UCA activities.
"Our biggest problem is that publicity has been dwindling. What we promise is to make sure that we give you updated information and also teach you the game of cricket," said Mukasa as he addressed the press at Lugogo yesterday.
Mukasa revealed that the association was on the verge of reviving the professionals' league (Abagurusi) and also starting 20/20 cricket. He said these will be used to arouse public interest in the game.
