The much expected polio vaccination exercise due to commence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been suspended indefinitely due to lack of vaccines, LEADERSIHIP can authoritatively reveal.

According to our findings, the polio exercise for which millions of naria have been dolled out for training and preparation by all the six area councils could not take place as reports from the ministry of health indicates that there are no vaccines to carry out the exercise.

LEADERSHIP reliably gathered, from a top notch in the ministry who preferred anonymity that the vaccines were not made available from the World Health Organisation (WHO), a situation which made it impossible to carry out the exercise.

He, however, declined explanations on why they started the campaign involving the area councils who voted huge sums of money for training of personnel and other logistics in preparation for the exercise.

One of the heads of departments (Health) who also spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, regretted that they hadput in a lot to the preparation only to be told later that there were no vaccines.

He said that lack of vaccines has nothing to do with lack of finance as the vaccines were donated to the ministry by the WHO, adding that the suspension of the exercise should not be looked upon as laxity or unavailability of funds.
