Barely 72 hours after ex-Nigeria's president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo gave reasons for not honouring House Committee on Power invitation, he made a surprise appearance yesterday in Abuja, as one of the inductees into the fellowship of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering.

He urged Nigerian engineers to support the realisation of the Federal Government's Vision 20-20 agenda.

Obasanjo, who strolled into the Ladi-Kwali Hall, venue of the induction ceremony almost unnoticed until he was introduced by the organisers, however rebuffed approaches by newsmen to interview him on his way out of the hall.

In his induction speech, Obasanjo urged Nigerians to emulate the examples of Japan and Singapore, which had little or no natural resource, but achieved economic and technological progress using their engineers and technologists with local entrepreneurs.

He said the only path to achieving our economic goals is for us to have a sense of mission and vision, and to ensure consistency and continuity in our policies and actions.

The last time I strongly voiced it in my comments, I used Britain as an example when the administration changes from conservative to labour or vice versa, CONTINUATION IS RIGIDLY MAINTAINED. As witnessed in Nigeria today, instead of the present administration and the law makers maintaning the continuity of... [Read Full Text]
