Kigali — As part of its team-building activities, The Department for International Development (DFID) Rwanda staff Thursday took part in community work (Umuganda) in Butansinda, Nyanza District.
A press statement from DFID said they meant to put into practice principles and ways of working together which will help them achieve their goal of supporting poverty reduction in Rwanda.
The team cleared a site set aside for the construction of a low-cost house for a vulnerable family, and helped Ecole Technique Officielle (ETO) Gitarama work out how to raise funds for its Make A Difference (MAD) project.
The MAD project provides students with relevant practical training, while also helping the vulnerable and underprivileged people within the school's neighbourhood.
"This is the second time that I have been in a DFID office which has decided to help with a community project as part of a team-building exercise. It's great for the team to be able to contribute even more directly than we usually do to improving the lives of the poorest," said Sandra Pepera, head of DFID in Rwanda.
The Principal of ETO Gitarama, Mark O'Kane, expressed his appreciation saying that he was excited that the DFID team participated in launching the school's "Make A Difference" project.
