National Oil Spill Detection Response Agency (NOSDRA), one of the key players in the energy sector, said it's collaborating with other stakeholders to put an end to oil spillage and pollution in the country.

According to the Director General of the Agency, Dr. Bamidele Ajakaye the problem of oil pollution will soon become a thing of the past.

He said his agency is working seriously to address the accumulated problem of the past and has put a monitoring group and people in place to let the people know the danger of vandalizing oil facilities.

His words: "All hands are on deck to ensure that Nigerians now enjoy dividends of democracy. The cooperation and support we are getting from federal government through the minister of environment speak in volume that the government is not ready to pay lip service to the problem."

According to him, the agency is to be an alert organization able to detect any oil spill immediately it occurs. And it would be ready to respond immediately to control and remedy the situation as well as to prevent incidences of oil spill through its policies on environmental standards.

On the challenges that his agency had faced in the past, Ajakaye said it was natural for a new agency like NOSDRA to encounter some difficulties.

His words:

"The Niger Delta area of Nigeria is presently the hub of oil exploration and production in Nigeria. The exploration and production, as well as storage and transportation of oil in the Niger Delta have negative impacts on the fragile ecosystem of the area, notwithstanding its revenue generation.
