Angola: Army Cadets Begin Engineering, Biotechnology Courses

Luanda — Three hundred and eight cadets began this Friday here their lessons at the Superior Technical Military Institute (ISTM), on the sidelines of the inauguration and opening of the 2008/2009 academic year of this new education facility of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA).

This institute that was inaugurated on Thursday, and whose infrastructures have been completely rehabilitated, is located within the Grafanil Military Field, in this capital. Engineering and biotechnology courses are being taught at the centre.

Specialities of mechanics, electronics, building and computing are part of the engineering courses, whilst the biotechnology courses include medicine, nursing and health.

It is specialised in the preparing, training and specialisation of staff capable of improving and completing the framework of FAA experts, as well as for the study, teaching, scientific and technological research equipped with the scientific and pedagogic statutory autonomy.

This facility emerges as a tool for the military training and instruction and is part of the system of military education and teaching.

Civilian and military students from the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Huambo and Huíla will are attending the academic year as borders, distributed into 10 classes with 30 students each.

To enrol in this centre the candidate should be aged between 18 and 21 years, and have their secondary education complete, and then he should pass an admission test.

The teaching staff is being secured by Angolans and Cubans, in the framework of the cooperation that Angola and Cuba have in the education sector.
