Harare

The Business Manifesto mooted by the business community in the aftermath of the landmark harmonised elections has been drafted and will be unveiled next month the chairman of the Harare Chamber of Commerce Mr Oswell Binha has revealed.

Speaking to Herald Business this week, Mr Binha said the Chamber still needed to sell the recommendations contained in the document to stakeholders.

"The Business Manifesto draft is now complete, however we feel that we need to sell the recommendations to all stakeholders to show that business is serious," he said. Mr Binha highlighted that the National Chamber was planning a congress for June where the "Manifesto" would be made public, an event he said "will hopefully be dovetailed into policy on the fiscal side more so in the wake of the recent Monetary Policy". The Harare chapter chairman said that as the nation worked towards an economic turnaround, there was need for industry to reach a consensus with relevant stakeholders on the issues at hand with "trust" being the key component.

He said this in reference to the social contract, which has moved at a stuttering pace because of differences of opinion and lack of trust amongst the negotiating parties-Government, industry and labour. Speaking on the deregulation of the exchange rate, he said it was laudable but he feels industry still needs to be incentivised, "since we are in business to get a return on our investments".

He lamented the situation whereby finance institutions were currently buying foreign currency without selling any.
