Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a Russian couple that was hacked to death at plot number 59 near Okahandja.

The couple is believed to have been murdered between May 10 and 11.

The suspect who was arrested on Wednesday afternoon was found in possession of an undisclosed amount of cash, while the other suspect, arrested yesterday morning at Otjimbingwe, was found in possession of a pistol believed to have belonged to the murdered couple.

One of the suspects is over the age of 18, while the other is 21.

Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Angula Amulungu, confirmed the arrests. According to Amulungu, the suspects were employees of the Russian couple.

He said the suspects were found with items belonging to the couple at the time of the arrests.

The two are expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate's Court today on charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

They are accused of murdering Svetlana Lobanova (44) and Andrei Pastouchkov (50).

The victims are reported to have lived in the country for the past five years, first in Windhoek, before they moved to the plot where they have been engaged in poultry.

They were renting the plot from a German national.

Post-mortem results on the couple were released on Wednesday.

According to Chief Inspector Amulungu, Lobanova had 10 cuts all over her body, and had lost a lot of blood as a result of the wounds inflicted on her body. The husband had a deep cut in the neck, which might have caused his death, he said.

Pastouchkov's body was found in the chicken run at the plot while Lobanova was found in a pool of blood in the house.
