The search for Miss Biggy-Matofotofo 2008 begins this weekend when pageant organisers visit the city of Mutare for awareness and fundraising shows.
Lwazi Mbowa, the pageant founder said big women in the city would be given the platform to speak out on the problems they face during the awareness programmes to be held
in and around the border town tomorrow. Later in the evening, there will be a fundraising show at Wise Owl Motel by some of the chief sponsors of the pageant in the Manicaland. However, Mbowa emphasised that this year attention would be on awareness programmes. "This year we have decided to hold our pageant in a different way as the contest has grown popular with the passing of each year. "As we unveil our programme of action, we have lined up some roadshows this weekend in and around Mutare in a bid to promote the fuller African figure using big women," she said. Mbowa said her organisation decided to start the workshops in Mutare after their sponsors in the region made the appeal to her organisation. "This year we are working with a number of sponsors and it is our wish to respect the will of our sponsors who are always behind us. "We also hope to market our brand and that of our sponsors simultaneously during the shows but the main focus would be on big women," she explained. Mbowa said some finalists from last year's edition including the reigning queen Sithembeni Zinyengere would embark on car washing at Amtec garage.
She urged motorists to bring their vehicles in numbers saying her team was ready for the task. "Unlike in previous years, we felt it was noble that we desist from begging and do something in return for that sponsorship. "There is also a general belief that big women are very lazy and we hope we will prove our critics wrong this year," she explained. Some of the popular faces from the Miss Biggy-Matofotofo Trust expected to visit the town include the reigning queen Zinyengere, finalists Monica Chikasha, Nolwazi Dube among others.
Since its inception three years ago, Miss Biggy-Matofotofo has become popular both locally and internationally. Bulawayo-bred Nobesuthu Sibanda was the pageant's inaugural winner in 2006 while Zinyengere was crowned the queen at last year's edition. Despite some planning boobs last year, Mbowa assured modelling enthusiasts that her organisation would not repeat the same mistakes.

The introduction of Miss Biggy-Matofotofo has been a refreshing development, embraced by modelling enthusiasts who say the modelling calendar is now rich with other pageants such as Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Miss Summer Strides and the controversial Miss Rural Zimbabwe.
