Abuja — In a bid to properly structure the land allocation and management system, the Federal Government yesterday said it has set up a committee, to streamline and harmonise all land allocation matters, and ensure more accurate records of allocated lands in the country.
A statement by Chief Press Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Environment, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Clement Egbema, said the process was yesterday kick-started with the inauguration of a nine-man committee by the Minister of State, Environment Chief Chuka Odom.
It said the committee, headed by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Otaki Oyigbenu, with Mrs G.O.Ogbutor, Director (Lands & Housing), Mrs C.F.Sibeudu, Director Urban and Regional Development, Mr C.E. Oboli, Director Cadastral Survey among others.
At the inauguration, the Minister called for concerted effort, to ensure that all land cases were harmonised in order to keep accurate records of allocated lands.
Odom also pointed out that the committee was a statutory creation of Section 2(2) of the Land Use Act Cap. L5 and Section 51(2) of the Constitution, which empowers the minister responsible for land matters to set it up.
