South Africans must work hard and contribute towards preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, says Local Organising Committee Chief Executive Officer Danny Jordaan.

Speaking at Sun City on Thursday during the celebration of the 4th anniversary since the announcement was made that South Africa would host the world cup, Mr Jordaan appealed to all South Africans to make the event a success.

"This event that we have worked hard for belongs to all the people of Africa especially the South Africans.

"We must all work hard to make sure that we give the world one of the best soccer world cups it has ever seen," he said.

He further urged South Africans to use their talent and benefit from the event.

"We have people who have the potential in our country, all of us must use out talent to make sure that we better our lives.

"The 2010 soccer world cup does not belong to a few individuals, we must believe in ourselves and all start to work hard to make this a success." he said.

Mr Jordaan further highlighted that the announcement of the world cup in 2004 in Zurich must be remembered by all South Africans.

"Today, we must all remember the contributions and the excitement that we shared during the announcement.

"Our former President Nelson Mandela who was with us has also celebrated with us, it was the most memorable moment in South Africa.

"We were all happy, and I want to encourage you to continue to be exited about hosting this event," Mr Jordaan said.

Chairperson of the North West 2010 Local Organising Committee, Kennedy Mosiapoa told BuaNews that they would ensure that many people benefitted from the event in the province.

"This big soccer event means that all South Africans must benefit including taxi drivers, people who work in construction, guest houses, hotels, musicians and many individuals in the country.
