Tunisia: President Ben Ali Confers With MDS Secretary General

President Ben Ali received on Thursday Mr Ismail Boulehya, the Secretary General of the Movement of Socialist Democrats (MDS), one of Tunisia's five opposition parties represented in parliament.

The meeting provided an opportunity for Mr Boulehya to inform President Ben Ali of the celebration on June 10, of the movement's 30th anniversary of its existence.

Apart from a program of regional cultural and political events, the MDS is planning to organize an international conference on "The democratic change in Tunisia : realities and perspectives". Several guests from the Maghreb and other countries in the Arab world are expected to attend the event.

Following his meeting with President Ben Ali, the MDS Secretary General said that he was happy of witnessing the President commitment to anchor the pluralistic, democratic process in Tunisia , which represents for him, he added, "an irreversible choice".

He also commended President Ben Ali's care for Tunisia 's younger generations which whom he has engaged in a dialogue sharing their expectations and concerns.
