Freetown — Former Sierra Leonean President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has been ordered to testify in open session today in the trial of three former members of the Revolutionary United Front.
Kabbah was called by counsel for first accused Issa Hassan Sesay under a subpoena ordered by the trial chamber.
The ruling followed unsuccessful applications by the defence, first to allow Kabbah to testify with protective measures, and then to admit his written statement into evidence in lieu of oral testimony.
Trial chamber I, consisting of presiding judge, Justice Benjamin Itoe, Justice Bankole Thompson, and Justice Pierre Boutet, ruled that the former president should appear in court today at 9:30 a.m.
The trial is open to the public.
