Former Secretary of State east in the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) government Wednesday revealed that he hold nothing against the governing All Peoples Congress.

Tom Nyuma, who is now contesting the chairmanship of the Kailahun District Council under the ticket of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), said all pre election misunderstanding he had with the party has been resolved.

The SLPP strongman has had a bitter confrontation with President Ernest Bai Koroma's chief security officer Idrissa Kamara alias Leather Boot at a hotel in Bo.

The latter had accused Nyuma of attempting to assassinate Koroma, then a presidential candidate in the events leading up to the 2007 general elections.

In the ensuing scuffle he was seriously beaten by bodyguards.

The determined military-cum-politician told Concord Times that Kailahun district was predominantly SLPP and that no other political party would take the mantle of leadership in the council.

He said if elected chairman of the council, he would foster unity among his people and strive for infrastructural and socio-economic development of the district.

He pledged to ensure that the people benefit more from cocoa, coffee and diamonds produced in the district.

"I am ready for the task that lies ahead. I know that it is tough but my resolve to produce result is unshakable. I believe that I have the substance that it takes to chair the affairs of this great district," he said.

Nyuma said during his term as secretary of defense for four years, he sacrificed a lot to keep the peace and security of his people.

"With my ten years experience in the diaspora I have new ideas and experience which I would incorporate into my new plans for Kailahun district. I would also prioritize safety and security of Kailahun citizenry in conjunction with the central government, tighten the bond among the fourteen chiefdoms in the district in the interest of peace, progress and development," he said.
