The High Court will deliver its ruling on Monday next week in the case in which Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions leaders - accused of uttering falsehoods likely to be prejudicial to the State - are seeking bail.

ZCTU secretary general Wellington Chibhebhe and president Lovemore Matombo were denied bail by the magistrates' court, which ruled they were not proper candidates for bail. Justice Ben Hlatshwayo said he needed time to consider arguments presented before him by both the defence and State counsel.

This means the two will spend another weekend in custody awaiting their fate. Charges against the two arose on May 1 at Dzivaresekwa Stadium where they addressed workers gathered for the Workers' Day commemorations. It is alleged the two told the workers that they had received information that Zanu-PF supporters had killed two teachers at Kondo School in Guruve before urging the workers to revenge.

The utterances, it is alleged, were false and calculated at inciting workers to revolt against the Government.
