Angola/Tanzania: Federation Rejects Tanzania's Invitation for Friendly

16 May 2008

Luanda — The Angolan Football Federation (FAF) reject an invitation from its counterpart of Tanzania, to play a friendly match between the main team of both countries, on May 25, in Dar-es-Salam, ANGOP learnt this Friday.

The secretary general of FAF, Augusto Silva "Alvarito" said this morning that the negative response was due to calendar issues. The Angolan national team will play against Mozambique this Sunday, at Cidaddela stadium, for the qualifiers to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) for locally based players and next Wednesday they will face Benfica, of the Portuguese first league, which begins on a tour through the country next May 19.

The source explained that the date proposed by the Tanzanian Federation is not part of the calendar of the world football motherboard (FIFA). This match's result will not be included in the International Ranking.

The referred invitation, according to a source of the Angolan Embassy in that country contacted by ANGOP this Friday, was made this month availing the opportunity of the date to commemorate the Africa Day, May 25.

Angola and Mozambique (1-1 in Beira city) will play for the second leg qualifier to CHAN, which is scheduled for 2009, in Cote D'Ivoire.
