An evaluation meeting of members of ESTHER Cameroon took place in Yaounde yesterday.

Aone-day coordination meeting to review the results of a study carried out by an institution "Together for a Network Hospital Therapeutic Solidarity", known in its French acronym as "ESTHER Cameroon" took place in Yaounde yesterday. The event brought together participants from hospitals and other institutions taking care of HIV/AIDS patients in the country. "ESTHER Cameroon" is a public interest group which is sponsored by the French Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The aim of the network is to reinforce the caring of people living with HIV/AIDS. Evaluation carried out by the experts for the past five years showed that there were problems in some areas. These are problems of partnership, coordination and communication.

According to Dr Julienne Nouthe Djubgang, assistant coordinator of "ESTHER Cameroon", partners have really not been active for the past five years. She pointed out some of the short comings between the personnel in the filed and the donor partners. This included long implementation period for projects financed, lack of justification for projects already completed in the field and finally the existence of partners but no personnel to implement projects. She also pointed out the lack of coordination for the better implementation of policies. The purpose of yesterday's meeting therefore was for the members of ESTHER Cameroon to meet with their personnel in the field, present to them the findings of the evaluation and find possible solutions to these problems in view of their projects for 2008. According to Dr. Julienne Nouthe, the problems partners gathered during the meeting will be presented in the coordination meeting in Paris, France, next month.

It should be noted that ESTHER Cameroon offers training to all the personnel intervening in the chain of assistance to people living with AIDS. The institution also equips hospitals with the necessary equipment to look after AIDS patients. Also, Esther Cameroon provides for refresher courses for personnel in hospitals in Cameroon to train in France and those from France to train in Cameroon. Since last year the programme is also helping to reinforce the capacities of associations in the three centres in the country notably West, Littoral and the Centre provinces in order to ensure quality care for the patients.
