The accord was signed between the university and an institute in Sweden.

The University of Douala has signed a cooperation accord with the Blekinge Institute of technology in Sweden. The twinning took place in the University of Douala between the Rector of the Douala University, Prof Bruno Bekolo Ebe and Dr Jan-Olof Gustavvson of the Faculty of Engineering of the Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Rector of the Douala University said the agreement is an opportunity for the Douala University, because it falls in line with the vision of the University Board to widen cooperation ties not only with Universities of English and French countries but also with Scandinavian countries.

Prof Bekolo said the agreement will improve professionalism and applied technology in studies. "We believe this agreement will help us achieve this objective", said Prof Bekolo.

According to the agreement, it gives grounds for the two institutions to exchange visits, exchange information on research, exchange scientific and educational literatures produced by lecturers from both universities, and also to promote cooperation in other spheres with care so as not to harm each other. The agreement, according to the memorandum, was to be renewed after five years.

On his part, Dr Jan-Olof said this is the first step to the memorandum which he believes is going to go deeper. He said he believes through this cooperation they are going to exchange lecturers, etc, because he believes in globalisation and cooperation of universities all round the world. He remarked they have a PhD student from the University of Douala and commended his performance. He also expressed the wish of having more Cameroonian students visit Blekinge Institute of Technology to further their students.

The Director of ENSET Douala said the negotiations were made three years ago. This cooperation is going to be of greater benefit to ENSET it was said.
