Staff of the National Social Insurance Fund, known by its French acronym as CNPS, through their representative, Daniel Eke, has petitioned their new General Manager, GM, Olivier Mekulu Mvondo, to ensure the payment of outstanding arrears and allowances of some personnel.
Eke made this plea during a ceremony to award labour medals to some meritorious workers by the Southwest Governor, Louis Eyeya Zanga, and the maiden visit of the corporation's new GM to the Southwest Province, Wednesday, May 14.
The staff representative also used the occasion to thank the GM for giving the Southwest branch of the CNPS the first priority during his maiden tour, to acclimatise himself with the various branches of the corporation.
The GM, in his address, stated that the CNPS has the obligation to accomplish its mission assigned by the State, which includes the recovery of social insurance contributions from employers and the payment of various allowances to beneficiaries.
Mvondo said an increase in the number of beneficiaries has been realised through the creation of more proximity service structures in the various provinces. He disclosed that after the payment of outstanding arrears to the various beneficiaries was launched in the past years, a total of FCFA 858,112,481 was paid out to various beneficiaries this year.
"The dues were distributed as follows: FCFA 31,885,565 was earmarked for family allowances; FCFA 6,498,582 for industrial accidents and occupational disease compensation; and 819,728,334, for old age, disability, survivors and pension for the Buea Provincial Centre," said Mvondo.
In relation to fringe benefits to CNPS staff, the GM said he shall continue from where his predecessor, Louis Paul Motase ended, by revising the staff rules and regulation and presenting it to the Board of administration for promulgation.
"There are high expectations for us to modernise the payment operations in order to meet with international norms and to establish loyal a relationship between employers and employees.
At the end of the ceremony, 25 meritorious CNPS staff were decorated with silver labour medals; 29 received silver guild medals and 33 received gold medals. The Chief of Centre, CNPS Buea Branch, Timothe Eloundou, who was also decorated with three medals (silver, silver guilds and gold), told The Post that the criterion used in the selection of laureates was based on assiduity and longevity at the corporation.
"I have been working with CNPS for the past 25 years and I am confident that I did my best in rendering services to the community, reasons why I am today decorated with three medals," said Eloundou.
He encouraged other workers who were not decorated to be steadfast in the discharge of their services so that they could also be recognised by the state. Some local administrative officials at the ceremony included the Divisional Officer of Buea, Yves Bertrand Awounfac Alienou, Buea Mayor, Charles Mbella Moki among others.
