The Federation of Kenya Employers Saturday urged the government to delay the implementation of new labour laws until concerns raised over them are addressed.

FKE executive director, Jacqueline Mugo criticised the government for implementing some of the new labour provisions without consultations with employers contrary to the proposals by the task force that reviewed the laws.

"We are concerned that no time was given to all parties and institutions to understand the laws and to assess how they will affect them. The implementation should not take place until the rules and regulations are discussed and agreed upon by the concerned parties," said Mrs Mugo.

Speaking during a national stakeholders workshop on the development of the action plan towards the enactment of the proposed rules and regulations of the new labour laws at Sarova Whitesands hotel, Mrs Mugo said the action of backdating the effective date of the Employment Act, the Labour Institution Act and the Work Injury Benefit Act contravenes the Constitution of Kenya.

But Labour minister, John Munyes said the Government has embarked on deliberating on the rules and regulations of implementing the five new labour laws which were enacted by the state December, last year .

Mr Munyes said the laws include Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Act, Labour Relation Act and Work Injury Act.
