STRONG winds during a downpour blew away part of the roof of the Bugiri district headquarters destroying property worth millions of shillings.

The rains, that started at 7:30pm on Wednesday, soaked computers and other materials worth sh8m. Among the offices worst hit was that of the chief administrative officer, Luke Lokuda, his deputy, personnel officer and district registrar.

Lokuda said: "This sh340m structure was constructed from 1997 to 1999 when President Yoweri Museveni officially opened it. It is still relatively new.

"We shall operate from under the mango trees until we move back inside."
