South Africa: Nanotechnology Exhibition Held in Newtown

Pretoria — South Africa and the French government will unveil an international Nanotechnology exhibition on Tuesday in Newtown, Johannesburg.

The world premier, traveling nanotechnology exhibition will be unveiled by the Department of Science and Technology's Dr Bethuel Sehlapelo and his French counterpart Ambassador Denis Pietton.

The exhibition will take a look at what nanotechnology can deliver, how it can address energy and environmental issues, health treatments, new materials for various applications as well as sports and leisure.

The Sci-Bono Discovery Centre is no stranger to hosting large school groups and visitors and the La Villette Nanotechnology exhibition will be combined with the on-going Sci-Bono exhibits.

The exhibition will be comprised of four focus areas that present the foundations, techniques and applications around nanotechnology through the use of posters, videos and interactive displays.

It will explain the basic science, minute scale and origins of nanotechnology and moves on to focus on the work that scientists do, how the research is conducted, what instruments are used.

Nanotechnology is present in physics, chemistry, biotechnology and many other spheres or fields of science.

The exhibition will also take a look at what nanotechnology can deliver, addresses energy and environmental issues, health treatment, new materials for various applications, sports and leisure.

The event forms part of efforts by government to ensure that South Africa is informed about nanotechnology and its potential benefits.

It will also stimulate interest surrounding science and technology.
