Nigeria: 500 for Eye Treatment in Jigawa

Dutse — Over 500 eye patients suffering from cataract disease in Jigawa are presently undergoing various forms of treatment by the state government primary health care agency in conjunction with the Al- Basar International Foundation.

The foundation has already treated 320 patients that are mostly very old who have come from far and near from all the 27 local government areas of the state with the hope of being treated of their ailments.

The patients who besieged the Dutse General Hospital in their droves for the treatment have also formed groups in the area with members of their families that served as their guides while waiting for their turns.

A 70-year old Malam Abubakar Harbo of Buji local government area disclosed to Leadership their anguish of going through a tormented life of living with partial blindness that have rendered them almost useless to their families.

He said he has been suffering from the cataract disease for about 15 years before the announcement by the state government asking them to come for free treatment.

When Leadership contacted Dr. Jilanee Muhammad Ghoulam who is in charge of the treatment and operation of the eye patients at the Dutse General Hospital, he stated that the operations being conducted are only on those patients with bilateral matured cataracts, they are not expected to pay any fees.

Dr. Jilanee stated that he has seen and conducted treatment on 320 patients with severe ailments of seeing disorder in three days and assured that they would begin to see immediately the operation is healed.

He said the state government is footing the bills while the Al-Basar International Foundation is in charge of conducting the treatments and the operation on the eye patients.
