Teachers on government payroll have been warned against running and teaching in private schools on grounds that it creates a conflict of interest and amounts to abuse of office.
The warning was sounded by the Kamuli Deputy RDC, Ms Aisha Ssekindi, during a meeting she held with teachers at Kamuli Township School on May 6.
Ms said a schools' survey report conducted by her office showed that most mushrooming private schools in the district are run by teachers on government payroll who spend more time on their private initiatives.
She also disclosed that a considerable number of private schools use UPE textbooks and other resources that are stolen from government schools by errant teachers.
This, she said, is a deliberate attempt to "kill" UPE so that the pupils in the free education system run to their schools.
"People (teachers) double dealing are cheating government and pupils thus sabotaging government by seeking to discredit it," she said.
Ms Ssekindi also revealed that the report holds teachers accountable for the high drop out rate of pupils especially the girls "because teachers do not make teaching and learning process attractive to learners and engage in teacher-pupil love relationships."
She warned teachers against drunkenness. Kamuli District Education Officer Ibrahim Kanakulya petitioned the RDC's office to sensitise the parents about their roles and obligations with regard to children's meals at UPE schools.

He said leaders should harmonise and package their messages to the public well because children need to eat to be able to learn better .
