Hundred of students of the Kwara State College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi, have been rendered homeless while several others sustained various degrees of injuries as a result of a heavy down pour which occurred at the weekend.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the rain, which started late hours on Friday night and did not stop till Saturday morning, damaged various buildings including the boys' hostel, lecture halls, girls' hostel and staff quarters.
Commissioner for education, science and technology, Alhaji Bolaji Abdullahi, who visited the College to assess the level of damage, said that it was an unfortunate situation and charged the staff and students not to panic as necessary support would be provided for them by the state government.
He called on the students to liaise with the Provost of the college to assist them to recover their lost credentials.
The commissioner appealed to the staff and students of the college to see the on going education reform programmes in the state as a step aimed at guaranteeing their future.
He said the reform agenda was to ensure quality education in the state as the era of low standard of education was gone for ever.

In his remark, the Provost of the institution, Dr. Zakariyau Abass Saliu, who had earlier taken the commissioner round the school to ascertain the level of damage done by the heavy down pour, urged the students to remain calm and see everything as an act of God.
