A new president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has emerged.

The new leader,Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie of the Imo State University, Owerri was elected during the Union's 15th delegate's conference in Kano .

Other members of the new executive include Dr. Nasir Fagge Isa from Bayero University Kano who was elected as Vice President, Dr. Eniola Sikiru from University of Ado-Ekiti was elected as Financial Secretary and Dr. Regina Odey from Benue State University is the new Treasurer.

In his acceptance speech, the new ASUU President promised to continue the struggle that will enhance the status quo of the union, adding that the issue of UNILORIN 49 is one of the executives' cardinal targets to ensure that they regain their jobs. He also advised the federal government to wade into the UNILORIN 49 issue, saying there was no due process in their sack.
