Lagos — Nigeria's national team captain and hero of the English FA Cup finals played at the weekend, Kanu Nwankwo, has continued to receive attention both from home and his base in England. Kanu Nwankwo's lone goal against Cardiff City Football Club had on Saturday given Portsmouth Football Club their first FA Cup victory in 69 years.
Among the early callers to Kanu on Saturday was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Reginald Ihejiahi.
Kanu is Fidelity Bank's brand ambassador. The Nigerian international and two-time African Footballer-of-the-year had early this month invited Mr. Ihejiahi to be his guest at the FA Cup finals, but Ihejiahi could not attend because of other engagements. An excited Ihejiahi who watched the match in Nigeria had told Kanu "Kanu, you continue to do us proud and all us in Fidelity Bank congratulate you on this historic victory". The footballer pointed out that he was glad that his fellow countrymen of all classes were following his performance so closely and said that he "would not let down the Nigerian individuals and corporate bodies who believe in me, especially my friends in Fidelity Bank Plc".
Fidelity Bank on May Day signed an agreement with Kanu to be the bank's ambassador and to allow the bank the use of his image in their communication.
