The Minister of Education, Dr. Joseph Korto has suspended four Public School Principals and two other officials indefinitely for their failure to ensure that their students sit this year's exams that are being administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Those affected include John Nyepan, Principal, E.J. Goodridge P.M. Session in Barnesville Estate; Sam Mulbah, Principal, Soul Clinic Community School in Paynesville; Zebedee Molowoi, Principal, Kingsville Public School in Paynesville and Schul Tayah, Principal, Special Project P.M. Session in Stephen Tolbert Estate, Gardnerville.

Others are Jackson Jeh, Registrar, E.J. Goodridge Junior High School P.M. Session and Victor Dumaxas, Vice Principal for Instruction, Special Project P.M. Session.

Following their suspension, the Minister on Monday ordered that all school properties that are in their possession be turned over to the District Education Officer immediately.

Information gathered by this paper revealed further that on the first day of WAEC Exams, students from the affected schools who had gone to sit the exams were denied by the supervisors of the test on grounds that they had not registered.

The students immediately protested and insisted that they would sit the exams since it was their right. The protest of the students claimed the attention of WAEC authorities and the Minister of Education and so they went to acquire information that led to the situation.

When the principals were asked by the Minister, they confirmed that some of the students had not registered for the WAEC exams as scheduled by the institution. The answers from the Principals didn't go down well with the Minister so he immediately ordered their suspension.

At the same time, when contacted, WAEC authority confirmed that they were aware of the incidents at the various institutions and pointed out that it was not their fault and so, there was nothing they could have done to arrest the situation.

The Controller of WAEC, Sam David who spoke to this paper on Monday also explained that some of the school authorities held the 'WAEC numbers' of their candidates and insisted that unless the students cleared their balance tuitions, their numbers wouldn't be released.

WAEC however expressed disappointment over the principals' attitudes but assured the students that if all goes well, they would sit the next exams in the nearest future. "It is not our fault; we did our best to ensure that the students receive their numbers on time and take the test," he added.
