A TELEVISION licence officer at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) at Oshakati has been arrested on charges of corruption for the alleged embezzlement of TV licence fees amounting N$70 000.
James Tjironderua, who appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate's Court last week, remains in custody after he failed to pay bail of N$10 000.
The case was postponed to July 17.
Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Paulus Noa, said Tjironderua allegedly did not pay over licence fees he had collected.
"We found that a lot of licence books were missing while others were found with licences issued but the money was never received [by the NBC]," said Noa.
Other licence books were reportedly burnt.
Tjironderua is alleged to have written to NBC Director General Bob Kandetu and said he burnt the licence books in order to destroy evidence.

Noa said the ACC was still investigating and more arrests were expected.
