Kenema

Member of Parliament representing constituency nine in Kenema district has embarked on the construction of a community bridge between Kpayama Section and the commercial district town of Kenema.

Hon. Mathew Nyuma said the bridge valued at Le 85,351,000 was constructed to show his commitment and diligence towards working for development.

He said the community has been isolated for a very long time as there was no vehicular traffic to link the city and the entire community, making it difficult to ferry commodities to market centres.

He said the construction of the bridge was his topmost concern especially when the community's several attempts to construct the bridge proved futile.

Hon. Nyuma said during his campaign, he packed his car fifty meters off the main road to the community. "I considered the bridge as one of the felt needs of the people," he said.

"I did this because the SLPP believes in development.

I will not be comfortable if my people are in difficulties," he said.

He added that his party has also donated medical equipment to the government hospital Kenema as part of its humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable.

Chief Brima Kargbo explained that during his tenure as chairman of the Kenema town council, he negotiated with partners to clear the heavy forest that engulfed the Kpayama community so that people can construct more buildings.

He said more support should be given to Hon. Nyuma so that he can embark on more projects in his constituency.

He referred to the forthcoming local council elections as crucial since it is pivotal to development.

Resident of the community Sahr Brima thanked Hon.

Nyuma for his effort in bringing the dreams of residents to pass.

He observed that the construction of the bridge was timely as the rains have already started.

Brima noted that the link between Kpayama community and the city would henceforth facilitate an excellent trading partnership while he called on other partners to emulate the MP's example.
