Eastern Moxico province is preparing its first participation in the National Chess Championship, which is set for July, with the holding of an internal tournament to qualify six players.

The tournament, which started last April involving 16 chess players, will be played in the system of all against all with two turns and will finish on June 29.

The local chess secretary, João Nguiji Tuesday told ANGOP, in Luena city, that Moxico is capable of competing equally with other opponents of the national championship.

Meanwhile, João Baptista and Aires Kambuandi lead the competition with 12,5 points each, after the first round. In the following positions are Rodrigues Hebo (12 points), Ami João (10,5), Custódio Major and Marcolino Kamunda (both with 8,5). In order to re-launch the sport, Moxico province organised "a pilot tournament" with 30 chess players, which qualified the top 16 players for the first "provincial" tourney, which shall qualify to best six to the National Championship.
