Nairobi — Kobil Wednesday won the open tender system to import crude oil for July barely two days after the High court gave a temporary reprieve against an order barring it from participating.
According to tender opened Wednesday at the Ministry of Energy by the tender board the company will import cargoes of 160,000 metric tonnes for crude oil.
Reliance, Shell and Adax will jointly import refined oil for July after they were declared the winners.
Earlier the open tendering system for oil stocks for the month of July was put on hold on Tuesday following the landmark ruling that allowed Kobil to be included.
According to industry sources who did not want to be named, the OPS was halted after Kobil served the board immediately the high court ruled in their favour.
The procurement for oil through OPS is highly coveted by oil companies who supply stocks to others.
Kobil had been excluded from tendering by PS Patrick Nyoike but the High Court overturned the order Monday.
