Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force on Sunday, pulled down The Nation's Newspapers signboard along Edinburgh road, Enugu, claiming it has links with the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

According to our findings, the police officers came from the Ogui police station and were busy dismantling Biafran flags mounted by MASSOB activists in preparation for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the still-born republic slated for May.

The divisional police officer (DPO), Mr. Jacob Muri, profoundly apologised for what he called "a grievous mistake", saying that his men were confused by the motto of The Nation 'Truth In Defence Of Freedom". According to him, since Biafra was all about freedom, his men saw the motto on the signpost and immediately concluded that it was linked with MASSOB.

"Please don't be annoyed. It was all a mistake. A grievious one for that matter. You see, these MASSOB boys are giving us headache. And it was in the confusion that they saw your signboard and thought it was linked to MASSOB due to the motto bearing the word freedom", explained the DPO.

The Police officers' academic credentials (if any)should be scrutinized. I am sure you would find something funny.

IF INDEED,WE HAVE RESPECT FOR THE RULE OF LAW WHICH IS ENSHRINED IN OUR CONSTITUTION,THERE WILL BE NO REASON FOR THE POLICE TO ATTACK PEOPLE WHO ARE PEACEFUL IN THEIR OPERATIONS. THE MASSOB HAS NOT BEEN VIOLENT IN THEIR DEMONSTRATIONS.THERE IS NO REASON POLICE SHOULD NOT ALLOW PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY.
